“A further milestone has been achieved“

Airtec 2010, the trade fair for suppliers to the aerospace industry takes place on November 2 to 4, 2010 at the Exhibition Center Frankfurt. The event is attracting a rising number of exhibitors matched by a strong presence of OEMs and system suppliers attending the B2B meetings. aerotec spoke with trade fair manager Diana Schnabel on the orientation and current focus points of the supplier trade fair.

Ms. Schnabel, the countdown for Airtec 2010 is on. What does the situation look like at present?
The fact that the number of exhibitors has doubled and the exhibition area has tripled by comparison with the previous year reflects the very successful development of the trade fair. All in all, we are expecting some 300 exhibitors for this year’s Airtec. In addition, we will be staging an exceptional and forward looking new topic park entitled Space World. The excellent international conference program is an additional key element of Airtec 2010.

And what is more, in addition to OEMs and system suppliers, market leaders from various sections of the value creation chain will also be represented – from the design and engineering areas on to software, simulation, composites, metals (aluminum, steel, titanium) and all the way through to electronics, testing, manufacturing, components and systems, as well as life cycle support.

Marking the fifth anniversary of Airtec, the AIRTEC AWARD will be bestowed in acknowledgement of outstanding exhibitor company performance.

Airtec 2010 regards itself as an exceptionally focused combination of trade exhibition, expert conferences and B2B-Meetings. What is the special hallmark of this concept?
Thanks to the presence of numerous market leaders from the areas of aviation, aero engines and aerospace, the Airtec 2010 event offers outstanding strengths with regard to the B2B meetings. The trade fair offers optimal service for exhibitors and visitors in addition to a multifaceted, international conference program featuring conferences on the topics of HELI, UAV, SPACE and “Supply on the wings“.

The participation of OEM supply chain management experts from Embraer and Bombardier in the B2B meetings as well as the presence of these companies as exhibitors including their procurement managers marks an additional milestone that AIRTEC has now achieved in 2010. Boeing has also confirmed even stronger presence, with key technology experts taking part in the conferences and the overall event. We are expecting the participation of additional OEMs and system suppliers from numerous countries.

Does this mean that the acceptance of Airtec is continuously rising?
Yes, the increasing presence of supply chain managers and program managers from all over the world is impressive proof of the fact. This year, for example, Bombardier from Canada will be represented by top supply chain and program managers who will be participating in the B2B meetings and the conferences at Airtec 2010. Or take the Brazilian aircraft manufacturer Embraer for example. The Vice President of Supply Chain Management and his managers will be available to exhibitors on all three days of the event. Additional OEMs and system suppliers have also already announced their participation in Airtec 2010. In connection with the strong OEM presence, Airtec creates a communication and competence platform for the aerospace industry, where key new projects are initiated and existing ones further deepened. In view of these activities, Airtec as an independent specialized trade fair, acts as a key procurement market and technology meeting venue for the aerospace branch. This is the only event where exhibitors have the unique opportunity to engage in B2B talks directly with supply chain managers on location. This year, this will include representatives of the aero engine manufacturer Snecma for example.

How do the B2B meetings with OEMS and system suppliers proceed at the trade fair?
During the course of the event the meetings take place in 30-minute intervals. All of the exhibitors and their sales representatives can participate in the B2B platform. In terms of visitors, the B2B platform is reserved exclusively for supply chain managers, buyers, project and program managers as well as engineers engaged in research and development at OEMs, first tier suppliers and on other levels. This year, OEMs such as Boeing, Embraer and Bombardier will be stepping up their presence with additional engineers, as well as supply chain managers, procurement managers and additional key individuals as technology carriers participating in the B2B meetings.

5. International Supply on the Wings conference
This year’s international “Supply on the Wings“ conference (from November 2 to 4, 2010) will be hosted under the motto of “Aerospace – The global Industry“ and will take place for the fifth time, as part of the AIRTEC supplier trade fair. The conference covers the entire range of current and future products of the aerospace industry, including

  • Energy technologies

According to information provided by the organizers the event will be “more international and larger than ever before.“ The preliminary program to date includes more than 80 specialist talks and presentation from more than 20 nations. Highlights on the agenda comprise keynotes by representatives of Airbus, Boeing, Embraer, Bombardier, NASA, BIAM (China), Lufthansa Technik, NLR and the European Commission, as well as guest speakers from Boeing, Alenia, Eurocopter, INPE (Brazil) and the University of Gdansk.
