“Towards a more intensive exchange“
The International Suppliers Center (ISC) has received the largest number of applications from the equipment and supply sector since it was set up. Intended to serve as a “fair within a fair“, this section of the display at the world’s oldest aerospace trade show will be attracting well over 60 per cent more exhibitors than in 2008. The ISC will be open during the three trade visitors’ days at the ILA, from 8 to 10 June.
Some 250 exhibitors from 16 countries (ISC 2008: 146 / 9 countries) will be presenting their products and services on an area measuring over 5,000 square metres in Hall 11 on the southern section of Berlin-Schönefeld Airport.
Approximately half of the exhibitors will be coming from abroad and for the first time trade visitors will be able to examine exhibits from Belgium, Finland, India, Japan, Singapore, Switzerland, Taiwan and Tunisia. The International Buyers’ Day on 9 June is a new feature at the ISC 2010 and provides an exclusive opportunity for exhibitors at the ISC to conduct direct B2B discussions with buyers from leading international OEMs and 1st tier suppliers. Some 60 leading procurement specialists from OEMs and 1st tier suppliers have already announced their intention of attending the ISC and of taking part in the International Buyers‘ Day.
The dialogue has to be increased
The results of the survey on developments in the aerospace supplier industry conducted in cooperation between aerotec, the Technical University Hamburg Harburg and Lischke Consulting confirm that more intensive exchange between companies on various levels of the value creation chain is a key success factor in order to better adjust to future OEM developments and demands. Dr. Norbert Lühring (Lischke Consulting) states: “In addition to horizontal interaction on the same value creation level, which has already been stepped up in Germany in various regional clusters, the dialogue will also have to be increased in a vertical direction between OEMs and companies positioned along the supply chain. To date, there are few suppliers exhibiting both horizontal and vertical integration capabilities.
This necessity to change is mainly to be seen against the backdrop of the new structuring of the value creation chain in which the majority of suppliers will have to reposition themselves. An additional impulse stems from the stronger internationalization course OEMs are pursuing, which is stepping up competition between suppliers.“
In this context, Lühring says, the challenge is to overcome the individual interests of various regional clusters, and utilize the opportunities of a comprehensive approach to segments and work packages within the value creation process. Stronger cooperation between the providers of development services and the manufacturers of components and systems may open up certain potentials. Moreover, cooperation potentials are also to be found in procurement and logistics that will enable a stronger positioning of suppliers.
To boost communication and discussions between OEMs and suppliers is a key objective of ISC. An event debating the topic of “Best Value Country Sourcing – successful global sourcing approaches“ will open the International Buyers’ Day. The speaker is Christian A. Rast (BrainNet), who will also take part in the subsequent panel discussion, along with Dr. Klaus Richter (EADS/Airbus), Josip T. Tomasevic (Claas) and Robert S. Anthony (Rolls Royce Germany).
The ISC Forum in Hall 11 represents another important event among the wide range offered by the ISC. Leading experts will be answering questions from exhibitors and trade visitors on current issues concerning the entire supply chain. At the same time exhibitors at the ISC will have an opportunity to put their products and services on display. On the opening day (8 June) papers and a panel discussion are scheduled which will discuss issues surrounding the topic of “Globalisation of the Supply Industry“. On the second day of the event (9 June) the ISC Forum is reserved for the International Buyers’ Day. On 10 June representatives of various associations and clusters will discuss the key topic of “Cluster Initiatives in Europe“. Other papers to be held include “Financial Support for SMEs“ , “New Rules for the Aerospace Industry in Quality Assurance“ and “The International Engagement of DLR in Aerospace.“
